Cool factoid; studies show food that makes us comfortable -regardless of “dietary value”- has better absorbtion rates. The study took people from significantly different culinary backgrounds (I believe the one I read about took a man from norway and a woman from the phillipines, could be mistaken) and had them eat their comfort foods. This showed a high absorbtion rate.

Then they switch the meals, the man got the woman’s comfort food and vice versa. There was absorbtion, but it wasn’t as thorough as before. Then they took the comfort foods and blended them into a paste and gave the subjects their respective meals. Even though they knew this paste was their favorite food, the absorption was still lower than it had been when they could recognize it.

So food isn’t just about “clean” or “unhealthy” its about nourishment, and sometimes that means diet coke and cape cod, and other times it means a fat fuckin salad with your favorite toppings. Eat what fulfills you. Nourish yourself. You whole self.
